People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has challenged the opposition outfit to remain united in their quest to unseat President William Ruto.
Speaking on Saturday, July 5, 2025, during the burial of Rigathi Gachagua’s maternal aunt in Mathira, Karua acknowledged the outfit seems to be heading in the right direction but warned of the importance of remaining united through the journey.
“The turnout you see when the opposition goes to various places is an example of the hope of purpose to liberate Kenya. We unite to liberate Kenya. It’s why you see various political parties and their leadership coming together, and we appreciate it. So I urge all leaders to contribute to unity; without it, it will be tough, and no one will be able to achieve it on their own,” she said.
Karua also explained her absence from the two-day tour of the western region by the opposition, basking in the love shown despite her absence.
“I was committed elsewhere, but I witnessed people were talking about me. It is such love and dedication that show the unity of purpose we have. I was committed elsewhere in the courts, and I appreciated it,” she added.
“I know we are many, and many are coming to join us. Many have ambitions to be the chosen as the flag bearer, but we have committed to remain united,”sh asserted.

Karua’s sentiments follow after Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka promised the outfit will remain united.
Speaking on Monday, June 30, 2025, on how the opposition will come to a consensus of one candidate, He expressed optimism they will successfully cross that bridge when the time comes.

“We and Wiper party are now rebranded for this task. We are ready to take the youth’s agenda. We are trying to convince each other with Marth Gachagua and the team. I won’t say I will not support another if I don’t get the ticket. We should not be creating scenarios. We will try our best, and it is why we are in talks to persuade one another,” he stated.
The ranking member of the People’s Loyal Opposition Coalition further reiterated that his candidacy would be a winning ticket for the opposition, in the event he is picked to carry the flag.
“I believe it is the aspiration of many, and that my partners will see that too and make a decision. If i get the ticket, then Ruto will be a one-term president. I believe if we want Ruto home, I should get the ticket,” he added.
