The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has announced a change of venue for the press conference on the upcoming Saba Saba protests.
In a statement shared on the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, the human rights body said that the press set for Sunday, July 6, 2025, will now be held at the organisation’s offices along Amboseli Road, off Gitanga Road.
The media briefing was initially set to happen at All Saint’s Cathedral in Nairobi.
“NOTE: The venue has been changed from All Saints’ Cathedral to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), 849 Amboseli Road, Off Gitanga Road,” the notice read.
KHRC’s demands
During the presser, the commission is expected to demand an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings of Kenyans who will be taking to the streets on Monday, July 7, 2025, for Saba Saba protests.
“Ahead of the Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, 2025, Kenyan mothers are demanding an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings of their children for taking to the streets,” KHRC stated.

Saba Saba protests
The protests are expected to peak on Monday, the anniversary of the historic 1990 Saba Saba protests for democratic reforms in Kenya.
There are fears that the demonstrations, driven by Gen Z activists and civil society groups, could lead to disruption and insecurity in major towns and transport corridors.
On June 25, at least 16 people lost their lives and over 400 were injured during a nationwide demonstration held to honour victims of last year’s anti-government protests.
The event turned chaotic as clashes erupted between protesters and police in various parts of the country.
Opposition leaders have issued a warning to the government regarding the use of police force to intimidate youths during the upcoming Saba memorial on Monday.
Wrapping up their two-day tour of the Western region in Kitale, the leaders vowed to monitor the events closely across the county and cautioned the Kenya Kwanza administration against using violent means to disrupt the peaceful gatherings.
