The MP made the statement during the funeral of Albert Ojwang, a teacher and blogger who died under suspicion at the hands of the police.

Ojwang was arrested from his Homa Bay home and taken to Nairobi Police Station. It is there, according to many sources, that he lost his life.

The cause of the environment surrounding his death is still unknown, but the case has fueled the growing concern about police violence and the abuse of authority in Kenya.

Why does Babu Owino want Eliud Lagat to be jailed?

During his speech at the funeral, Babu accused the police service of missing from his constitutional authority to protect life and wealth.

He argued that officers instead have been a threat to civilians who are intended to protect them.

“The police have to protect life and property. But today, they are the police who take away the lives of Kenyans,” He said. “We strongly condemn this situation and say that any officer involved in the murder of Albert must be arrested, taken to court and jailed.”

Grandpa went so far as to name Lagat by name, and announced that he must be arrested.

“We must start with Eliud Lagat. He must be arrested, taken to court and imprisoned for Albert’s death,” He said.

His remarks were received by great joy from mourners, many of whom shouted for justice to the killer.

Kanja explained that Ojwang’s arrest followed Lagat’s official complaint.

According to the police chief, Lagat claimed that the blogger had published false information online that allegedly destroyed his reputation.

IG also dismissed reports suggesting the blogger was not appointed at the station.

He emphasized that all procedures were followed and said the investigation was underway to determine the cause of the death.
