Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has called on Kenyans to report any suspicious activities related to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Speaking during a public engagement forum at Voi Stadium in Taita Taveta County on Friday, July 5, 2025, Duale issued the toll-free number *147#. For the public to use.
Flanked by Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime, Deputy Governor Christine Saru, Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, SHA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mercy Mwangangi, and Acting CEO DHA Anthony Lenaiyara, Duale revealed that the initiative aims to safeguard the safety and dignity of the country’s health services.
Furthermore, he acknowledged Community Health Promoters in Taita Taveta County for their vital role in delivering care at the household level.
“I also updated the public on SHA packages and benefits and formally acknowledged the 1,322 Community Health Promoters in Taita Taveta County for their vital role in delivering care at the household level. These frontline workers are trained, equipped, and connected, a core pillar of Kenya’s primary healthcare delivery system,” he said.

SHA crackdown
This comes a few days after President William Ruto announced that the government has closed 1,000 hospitals for falsifying medical claims to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Speaking to the Kenyan UK diaspora at a town hall in London on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Ruto stated that the closure is part of the ongoing probe into a fraud network in which dozens of healthcare facilities are accused of falsely converting outpatient visits into inpatient claims and admitting patients unnecessarily.
“We have closed down 1,000 fake hospitals, and we are closing a few more in the coming days because they want to change inpatient services to outpatient so they can claim more money. We will shut them down and make sure the program is clean,” he said.

Similarly, speaking on July 1, 2025, at a public forum at KCB Grounds in Kajiado, Duale said his ministry closed 35 health facilities over the allegations.
Additionally, SHA suspended services at some of the facilities linked to the scheme in more than 10 counties, according to another health ministry official.
