Businessman and former gubernatorial aspirant Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, has accused the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), of reversing decades of constitutional progress in less than three years.

In a statement on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Buzeki referenced the chaotic scenes at the funeral of activist Albert Ojwang as a reflection of a society rebelling, signalling a nation in distress.

“The scenes at Albert’s funeral are a classic reflection of a society rebelling to pull back runaway justice and hijacked social liberties. Citizens are writing their own rules—they are the MC in functions, and they decide who to speak to and who not to! A wounded nation,” read the statement in part.

Further, he accused the UDA-led administration of erasing 30 years of democratic and constitutional growth achieved since the early 1990s, when Kenya began its journey toward multiparty democracy and institutional reforms.

“UDA has wiped out 30 years of democratic and constitutional growth in less than 3 years,” he said.

This comes after the mourners at Ojwang’s funeral cut short Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s speech, demanding that the Embakasi East Member of Parliament address them.

In a shocking turn of events at Kakoth village in Kabondo-Kasipul, the youth took control of the moment, chanting Babu’s name and forcing Wanga to cut her speech short.

Speaking at the funeral of Ojwang, who died in police custody hours after being arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Owino said that Mawengo Police Station burnt itself to the ground, just as police had initially said that Ojwang had hit his head on the cell wall and died.

“To those who said that Ojwang had hit his head against the police cell wall to death, this police station has also set itself on fire,” Owino said.

Ojwang was buried in a high-profile funeral that saw various local leaders attend his interment service, with most of them demanding justice for the family.

The father of one was the only child in his family and had left distraught parents, a young wife, and a boy behind.
