Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa has challenged Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to drop his nice guy tag to withstand the battle for the supremacy of Western region politics.

Speaking on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the burial of the footballer duo of Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga’s mother in Uasin Gishu, the ODM MP stated that Mudavadi remains the region’s kingpin but must be ready to get muddied a bit if he is to maintain his hold.

The politician asserts that Mudavaidi must get tougher to earn the respect of his peers in politics and the larger community.

‘Nice Guy’

“As Luhyas will stand firm in Nairobi and at our home in Western, and Mudavadi; don’t be afraid. I know you were born a nice guy, but you have to brace for the task. Sometimes when you’re too nice, they will despise you,” he stated.

The MP also addressed the emergence of the opposition-led faction led by Eugene Wamalwa and George Natemebya under the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) as an alternative force in Luhya politics.

He stressed that despite their forays, they will remain behind the former vice president.

“Let us unite as a community and speak with one voice behind Musalia. We respect Eugene (Wamalwa) and (George) Natembeya, and we allow them to ask for votes, but we will be firmly behind Musalia as our leader,” he stated.

Aladwa’s sentiments were echoed by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who offered the legislator some nuggets of advice on the best route for the region to capture power.

Speaking at the same function, the senator chided unnamed politicians for taking a critical stance against their long-serving counterparts, having only risen to positions of power recently.

“The first thing is to respect other people and leaders. Musalia has been in leadership since I was in school. We have this crop of leaders who have been elected for only one cycle and have since become so vocal in their opposition against established politicians,” he lamented.

“You have to focus on friends like us. Hold on to us for the remaining period, and then in 2023, we can consider you. At least you will have people coming to you too for development projects,” he jibed on the best route for Luhya capturing power.
