In the quiet hills of Kakoth Village, Homa Bay County, the earth received Albert Ojwang for the final time. A gentle breeze whispered through the mourners, carrying with it the sobs of heartbreak and the silent weight of unanswered questions.
In his final sendoff ceremony to rest in the village of his ancestors, Albert was honoured not only as a beloved son but as a life gone too soon — a soul still crying out for justice.
Albert’s father, Mzee Meshack Ojwang, stood over on the podium with trembling hands, his voice hoarse from grief.
“Go in peace, my hero,” he said, looking into the lowering sun on Friday, July 4, 2025. “You may be gone from this world, but you will never be forgotten. Your life mattered. And I will not rest until the truth comes out.”
Mourners stood shoulder to shoulder under the heavy skies, many dressed in black, others in the traditional colours of mourning. Friends, neighbours, and former colleagues of the late Albert remembered a young man full of ambition and kindness, a bright light in a community now draped in sorrow.

Mzee Ojwang, visibly broken yet holding back tears for the sake of dignity, issued a heartfelt plea.
Wounded father
“Albert was not just my son. He was my only child—my pride, my future, my everything. His death is not just a loss to me but a wound to this village and to all who knew him.”
He did not shy away from pointing fingers, as he demanded accountability for the circumstances surrounding Albert’s untimely death.
“Who will speak for my boy if not me?” he asked the crowd. “I demand answers. I demand justice. Let no parent go through what I am enduring today, the unbearable pain of burying a child without knowing why.”
As the final clumps of soil fell onto the coffin, the choir sang softly, their voices faltering with emotion. Wreaths were laid, prayers were whispered, and goodbyes were said — each carrying a hope that the truth, however long it takes, will one day come to light.
Albert Ojwang was 31.
His grave may now lie still, but the call for justice echoes far beyond Kakoth.
