The People’s Loyal Opposition Coalition has entered the final day of its Western Kenya tour, with major rallies lined up in Busia, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties on Friday, July 4, 2025.
The two-day tour, launched as part of the coalition’s national mobilisation campaign, aims to build momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
On Friday morning, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced the day’s engagements on X, reaffirming the coalition’s focus on economic justice and political accountability.
“Yesterday in Vihiga and Kakamega we saw the strength of a people who want better and deserve better,” Kalonzo wrote.
“Today, the United Opposition continues its Western engagement with the people of Busia and Bungoma.”
Other opposition leaders in the Western tour include: DCP’s Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and former Attorney General Justin Muturi.
They are expected to begin in Busia town, with speeches expected to centre around border trade frustrations, youth unemployment, and stalled government projects in the region.
The opposition’s first day on Thursday, July 3, was marked by intense engagements in Vihiga and Kakamega counties. The tour began with a morning press conference at Ciala Resort, Kisumu, where the leaders framed the campaign as a “liberation cause” seeking to reclaim the country’s democratic space.

The team later traversed Luanda, Mbale, Malava, Mumias, and Kakamega town, addressing large crowds and criticising the Kenya Kwanza administration’s handling of the sugar industry and economic planning.
Rallies were peppered with concerns about the privatisation of state assets and rising cost of living, with opposition figures demanding more transparency and inclusion in national policy decisions.
The rally in Kakamega town was briefly interrupted by disruptions the opposition termed “sponsored sabotage,” but the team praised the youth who lit bonfires along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway in a show of resistance.
The tour is set to conclude this afternoon in Kitale, where Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is expected to host the team at Kenyatta Stadium.
The final rally will serve as both a close to the regional visit and a platform for restating the coalition’s national vision for change.
In a message that resonated across Thursday’s rallies, Kalonzo emphasised that Western Kenya deserves leadership that puts citizens first. “They’re tired of MoUs and handshakes that serve a few.
They seek dignity through employment and wealth creation,” he said.
As the opposition wraps up its Western campaign, all eyes remain on how the movement channels this momentum into national politics in the months ahead.
