Kileleshwa Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has weighed in on Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi’s appearance during the opposition Western tour.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, July 4, 2025, Alai questioned whether the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP is planning to decamp to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

“Are you moving to DCP? We will appreciate your exit,” Alai said.

Amisi’s appearance

Alai’s concerns come after the vocal lawmaker joined the opposition-led Western tour on July 4, 2025, in the counties of Bungoma and Trans Nzoia.

Amisi, during the tour in Kimilili, faced the former Deputy President in person and explained the rationale behind his decision to support the impeachment motion that ultimately led to his removal from office.

Speaking during the United Opposition Western tour in Kimilili constituency, Bungoma County, on Friday, July 4, 2025, Amisi said that he had voted for Gachagua’s removal precisely so that Gachagua would help the opposition team remove President William Ruto during the 2027 general elections.

“Mwashimiwa Gachagua mimi nilipiga kura uondolewe lakini nilipiga kura uondolewe ndio ukuje utusaidie kuondoa Wantam, Amisi said.

Amisi’s political game

Despite being a member of ODM, which is part of the broad-based government, the lawmaker has been defending the former deputy president while criticising President William Ruto’s leadership.

In a statement posted on his X account on June 30, 2025, Amisi explained that Gachagua is not the kind of leader any progressive nation would want, but he is the necessary evil essential in unseating the president.

According to Amisi, although Gachagua stands no chance of leading Kenya or becoming the opposition flag bearer, he still has a critical role to play in the next general election.

The vocal MP added that the former DP cannot be a presidential candidate, and if he does, Kenyans would not support it since he is only needed as a supportive figure in defeating Ruto, but not as a flag bearer.

“Don’t fight @rigathi; he is not the kind of leader for any progressive nation, but for now, he is the necessary evil you need in a team to defeat Ruto. He cannot be a flag bearer, and if he does become one, then the rest of Kenyans won’t entertain him. He is needed as a midfielder, the engine room, attacking and defending, not as a striker.” Amisi stated.
