Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has unveiled the house built for late blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’s family ahead of his burial ceremony.
Meshack Ojwang, the father of Albert, was handed the new structure on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in their home in Kokwanyo village, Homa Bay County.
“Today, as we receive Albert’s body home, his dream to build his parents a new house is fulfilled, albeit in his absence. May justice prevail,” Gladys Wanga wrote on her Facebook as she showcased the house.

The house features a soft peach exterior with crisp white trims around the windows and roofline, giving it a clean and attractive appearance. A bold red, gable-style metal roof adds contrast, while large metallic-framed windows bring in natural light. The front of the house includes a small tiled veranda supported by two strong columns, leading into the home.
Governor Wanga had promised to build the house during her visit to the family on June 16. In just two and a half weeks, the three-bedroom home was completed for Ksh1.5 million.
The county boss said the house was not just a building, but a symbol of dignity and support for the grieving family.
“I will donate a three-bedroom house so that Mzee will have a decent home. Mourners will come, sit in a tent, eat and leave, but Mzee deserves a better place to live,” she said at the time.
As the community prepares to lay Albert to rest on Friday, July 4, 2025, the family has also acknowledged the overwhelming support they have received from Kenyans.
During the requiem mass held at Ridgeways Baptist Church in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the family’s lawyer, Julius Juma, announced that they had received a total of Ksh5 million in donations.
“The family wishes to confirm that they received Ksh2 million from the Head of State, Ksh1 million from Honourable Raila Odinga and Ksh2 million from Kenyans who gave in the form of Ksh1, Ksh10, and Ksh100 shillings,” said Juma.
