Stand‑up comedian and media personality Steve Thompson Maghana, better known as Oga Obinna, has issued an update concerning Tanzanian teenager Baraka Joseph Machari, who went viral after bleating like a goat.
Taking to his official Instagram account on Thursday night, July 3, 2025, Obinna shared a video of Machari in the company of digital content creator Dappa mann at Namanga One Stop Post.
He added that the 16‑year‑old was now back in Tanzania, and Chief Godlove’s team of digital content creators was waiting to receive him, reunite him with his mother, and then support his return to school.
“Good job @dappa_mann #mbuziman is back home. En route to Dar, the Chief Godlove team is waiting to receive him and take him to Tarime to see mum and head back to school. Mambo ya Mungu,” Obinna said.

Stage-manage
This update comes days after Machari, during an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday night, June 30, 2025, admitted to lying to the police in Mombasa and faking the animal noises to garner sympathy and secure fare to Nairobi.
“Nilikuwa Mombasa na sikuwa na naulli ya kuja Nairobi. Nikaamua niact niliiba mbuzi Nairobi naenda kuomba huko msamaha. Nikaenda kwenye police station na wakaamini.Wakanipandisha gari hadi huku.“
Loosely interpreted as:
“I was in Mombasa, and I did not have transport money to Nairobi. I decided to act as if I had stolen a goat in Nairobi and needed to return to ask for forgiveness. I went to the police station, and they believed me. That’s how I arrived in Nairobi,” he narrated.
During the interview, he also revealed that he was Tanzanian and shared his struggles while growing up. He told Obinna that he dropped out of school because he could not afford a uniform.
He added that he wanted to come to Nairobi to find a way back to Tanzania.
Viral video
In a video that went viral on social media on Saturday, June 28, 2025, police officers were heard trying to interrogate the 16-year-old but found it hard as he could not speak.
While responding to the question about his name, Machari crowed like a rooster before bleating in subsequent questions.
“Jina ni nani?” “What’s your name?”, A female officer is heard asking. A male officer then takes over to enquire about the crime committed, only for the man to bleat.
“Makosa ni nini?… Ulikuja Mombasa lini…..wewe ni kabila gani….nyumbani ni wapi… Uliiba wapi, na mbuzi iko wapi tuwarudishie? ” Which offence have you committed? When did you come to Mombasa? What’s your tribe? Where is your home? Where did you steal from, and where are the goats? We will return them,” the officers were heard asking, but the man bleats like a goat and crows like a rooster while responding to the questions.
