Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has called upon Kakamega County residents to support the newly launched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking during the Western region tour by opposition leaders on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Kakamega Town, Malala urged residents to vote for leaders from the sub-county, constituency, and county levels under the DCP party in the 2027 general elections.
“As you are aware, I have launched a party called DCP together with Rigathi Gachagua. That’s my house. I am urging you; I want Members of County Assemblies, Members of Parliament and Senators elected under the DCP party,” he stated.
He was speaking, flanked by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, and other opposition leaders.
DCP party
Gachagua unveiled the DCP party on May 15, 2025, in Lavington, Nairobi.
Speaking during the launch, Gachagua said that he has spent the last 6 months at his home holding consultations to help shape his political party.
He noted that his party has been forged on the backdrop of the need to provide better leadership for Kenyans and pull them out of the long-standing problems of poor governance.

“Kenyans have boldly told us they have a solution to the problems facing them. Kenyans have asked us to start a party that will form a government by the people for the people,” he noted.
He added that the DCP party has no preferred candidates and will prioritise the voices of Kenyans, hence the party slogan “Skiza Wakenya“, which means “Listen to Kenyans”.
The ex-DP added that the party is keen on inclusivity and has onboarded representatives from all groups across the country, including Gen Z.
The party’s symbol is a hand holding an ear, symbolising the act of listening to netizens, with its official colours being green, red, white and black.
He appointed Malala as the interim deputy party leader, while David Mingati will be the chairperson.
Other notable politicians awarded roles included former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi as the National Organising Secretary, Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru as the National Women’s Leader, and former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi as the Deputy Party Chair of Strategy.
