Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has launched a stern and emotionally charged rebuke against Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of handing over Amani National Congress (ANC) to President William Ruto in pursuit of personal political gain.

Kalonzo, who was addressing a gathering in Western Kenya on Thursday, July 3, 2025, did not hold back as he expressed disillusionment with the current state of politics, saying that he has witnessed many of his contemporaries fall by the wayside after giving in to pressure and political offers from the ruling administration.

He recounted how he began the opposition struggle with several others, only for most of them — including Mudavadi — to fall out along the way.

“The time has come for the people here to rise up. I truly tried. How many of you have ever heard that Kalonzo changed his position? We began this opposition journey with many people, including Mudavadi. Now look, Mudavadi is completely stuck, and he has even handed over his entire political party to Ruto,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo said that despite making numerous efforts to keep Mudavadi rooted in the opposition and preserve the independence of the ANC, he watched helplessly as Mudavadi drifted further into the arms of the ruling regime.

“I tried pushing him to stay the course, but now he has surrendered the whole party. I tried, but he failed to resist,” he added.

Kalonzo further lamented the defection of allies who once championed the opposition spirit but now serve in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Referring to ODM leader Raila Odinga without mentioning his name directly, Kalonzo said he even campaigned for him wholeheartedly during the last election, only to watch him also retreat from the opposition course and align with President Ruto’s administration.

“I even went to the father of Rome and stood by him during the campaign. But now, even he has faltered. Everyone I tried to push forward has now collapsed,” he added.

Kalonzo’s promise

While addressing the crowd, Kalonzo also shared a deeply moving account of a case he had just been informed of, involving a family that has been pleading for assistance to bury a loved one whose body has remained in a mortuary for nearly six years.

He spoke with both measured empathy and visible indignation about the matter, saying it was a tragic disgrace for such a situation to exist in a region that is under the watch of elected leaders, including members of parliament and governors.

Kalonzo vowed to personally intervene, revealing that he had already been given a contact person connected to the family, and in the same breath, took a scathing swipe at the area’s leadership, saying they ought to be sent home together with President William Ruto at the next opportunity.

“What has been written here — that someone has stayed in the mortuary for six years, and yet there is a sitting governor in this region — that is a national shame. We shall make sure we come together and contribute, and we are sending our brother Eugene Wamalwa, as we have already been given the contact person. This is a disgrace, even to the community at large, and could easily attract a generational curse. All these leaders should be swept out after one term,” he said.
