City lawyer Nelson Havi has observed that the disappearance and reappearance of blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia after 12 days affirms the police’s position on the abductions.
In a statement on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Havi equally notes that the blogger’s actions have embarrassed a well-meaning judge, who ordered that he be produced in court dead or alive.
“Ndiangui Kinyagia has given undeserved credence to positions taken by NPS and DCI on police abductions, embarrassed a well-meaning Judge and dedicated public efforts to rein in police impunity. The single incident should, however, not derail momentum for police accountability,” Havi remarked.
12 days in hiding
Kinyagia went into hiding on Saturday, June 21, 2025, according to his family lawyer, Wahome Thuku, who confirmed on Thursday, July 3, 2025, morning that the blogger had been found alive after 12 days of a frantic search by family and police officers.

“On behalf of the family of Ndiangui Kinyagia, I wish to inform the Kenyan public as follows:
“That Ndiangui, who went missing last week, has contacted the family and that he is well, healthy and safe. Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location. Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” Thuku said.
Kinyagia, who presented himself to the court wearing a maroon hoodie, was received by lawyers and family members, who had spent days in agony over his whereabouts.
Slammed for hiding
Activist Boniface Mwangi has also castigated the blogger for going missing when the whole country was thinking that he had been abducted, when he had been hiding.

“What Ndiangui Kinyagia has done is wrong and criminal. An entire country was fighting for his release, and praying for his safety, thinking he was abducted, but all this time, he was in hiding! Shame on him and his family for misleading an entire nation,” Mwangi stated.
Mwangi equally took a swipe at the family of Kinyagia, for what he terms misleading the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to file a petition to produce him in court dead or alive.
“The family of Ndiangui Kinyagia misled the Law Society of Kenya and had them file a habeas corpus, despite knowing he was safe and in hiding. This behaviour is shameful and inexcusable,” Mwangi noted.
