Thursday blackout to hit parts of 11 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, that will affect parts of Nairobi, including the Communication Authority of Kenya, and areas in ten other counties.

The utility company stated that the interruption is necessary to facilitate routine network maintenance aimed at improving service reliability.

In Nairobi, affected areas include parts of Parklands, Kilimani, Langata Road, Waiyaki Way, Kiwanja, and Kahawa West. Notable locations expected to experience the outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm include Legal Plaza, Limuru Road, Ita Road, 6th Parklands, Farmers Choice Kahawa West, Moi Girls Kibera, Yaya Centre, Prestige Plaza, Ushuru Sacco, and the Communication Authority of Kenya along Waiyaki Way.

The blackout will also hit critical business premises, residential estates, schools, hospitals, shopping malls, fuel stations, and key road junctions across the affected neighbourhoods. Kenya Power has advised customers in these areas to prepare for the disruption and take necessary precautions.

In the Central Rift region, parts of Samburu County, including Posta, Suguta, Churo, Maralal Township, Mugie Ranch, and Kisima, will be without electricity between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

In the North Rift region, the outage will affect Cheptiret, Kerita, Burnt Forest, Kapkoi, Mugundoi, and other adjacent areas in Uasin Gishu County from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Western Kenya will also be impacted, with parts of Vihiga and Bungoma counties slated for interruption. In Vihiga, areas such as Mbihi, Demesi, Lyaduywa, and Mahadia will be affected from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Bungoma’s Butali, Chebwayi, and Pan Africa Chemicals Industries will experience the blackout from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

In South Nyanza, parts of Homa Bay County, including Kijawa, Akele, and Rug, are expected to lose power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The outage will also stretch to the Mt. Kenya region, with affected counties being Laikipia, Kiambu, and Kitui. Timau Town, Maritati, Kwa Nganga, and Ngare Ndare in Laikipia will be affected from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Kimende, Kambaa, Magina, and Carbacid Factory in Kiambu will be impacted between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Residents of Mutune, Wanzua, Kasyala, and surrounding areas in Kitui should also expect a full-day outage.

Coastal counties will not be spared. Parts of Kilifi County, including Matsangoni, Mida Creek, Roka, and Uyombo, will have no power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Similarly, Masalani Town, Ijara Village, Mikinduni Market, and other parts of Tana River County will be affected during the same hours.
