Former secular artist turned gospel singer Kush Tracey has revealed that her spiritual transformation has been met with mixed reactions.
Speaking during a candid conversation on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Kush explained that some people have tried to take her back to the secular world because they are not willing to accept that she is a born-again Christian.
“People have tried to take me back to the version I was because they are not willing to accept who I have become, and when people try to do that, it’s because they are not willing to do the journey and to walk the walk,” Kush revealed.
“People need to understand that just because you have been doing this and you have been comfortable with it, people know you for it, and you do not need to stay there; you can choose different, and if anyone is trying to drag you back to that space, you need to tell ‘I have moved.’”
She further disclosed that during her early days after giving her life to Christ, she was still struggling with alcohol addiction.
“It is not easy; I am still learning. I still lack patience. I sometimes talk to myself: ‘Kush Tracey, you are a patient woman; you are a sober woman. I am five years in now and I got sober like two and a half years ago, meaning I was still trying to get it right with God, and still I was struggling and fighting addiction. It was not easy. I used to go and park outside wine house liquor stores and stay like an hour, nafungua gari nataka kuenda kununua pombe lakini roho mtakatifu ananiambia wacha and that is part of the walk,” she added.

Secular days
The multitalented rapper, while recalling her secular days, also disclosed that she has never performed my songs while sober.
“Music is very powerful, and rhythms make us do things. When we were doing music, we used to go to clubs and we were performing, and there is just a particular spirit that is operating. There was this song that we were hearing, and everyone had gone down. Personally, there were songs I could hear, and all over a sudden, I could be grinding on a guy,” she revealed.
“When I used to go and perform, I never performed with a sober mind because my songs had to be ratchet on the stage, so I had to take shots so that am a bid high so that I was not in my right mind to think, What am I doing, I kissed guys that I did not know.”
