Nyandarua Senator John Methu has issued a defiant warning to President William Ruto, asserting that his death would not stop Kenyans from pursuing justice and that Ruto should be barred from attending his burial.
The senator declared that even if he were imprisoned, the public’s resolve would not waver and that the consequences of a second term for the president would be dire for the nation.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, during the burial service of Hon. Beth Waitho Njoroge, a nominated Member of County Assembly for Nyandarua County, Senator Methu told mourners that should President Ruto decide to kill him, the people must honour his memory by burying him with dignity while ensuring the President stays away.
“If William Ruto kills me today, you people must bury me with honour, and he should not attend my burial.”
Furthermore, he warned of the dangers ahead, adding that “if he gets a second term, all of us will be in trouble.”
The senator went on to accuse the president of deliberately targeting political figures opposing his camp, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and himself, through intimidation and threats.
However, he insisted that such tactics would not break the spirit of their supporters.
“It does not matter what you do to Rigathi Gachagua, you Ruto. It does not matter what you do to me, John Methu. I do not mind. But if you jail me today, these people who are seated here will still take you home.”

Senator Methu also dared the President to act violently against him, claiming that even if a bullet were to be driven through his head, it would not stop the people from holding him accountable.
He told President Ruto to understand that the people are firmly resolved to send him home, saying that his political fate is sealed regardless of the tactics he chooses to employ.
“If you drive a bullet through my head, it does not matter. These people will still take you home.”
The senator argued that President Ruto’s responses to his critics only served to strengthen their resolve.
“The more he answers, the more he emboldens us. Like me now, my head cannot be cracked,” he explained.
Abduction
The senator then recounted a personal experience of narrowly escaping abduction by security officers, stating that he had been approached but managed to evade detention by quickly changing vehicles.
He reflected on the incident, saying it revealed how unmovable he is, adding that even those who intended to abduct him were shocked as he fearlessly began chanting “wantam” before he managed to escape.
“I was once approached by officers, but I hopped onto a vehicle and went into another and said, ‘One term.’”
