Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi spearheaded a crucial planning session in London to prepare for President William Ruto’s visit to the United Kingdom.
The visit will see the signing of the Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030 at 10 Downing Street with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The agreement aims to boost Kenya’s economy, create jobs, and deepen cooperation in technology, climate action, and public safety.
Backed by a UK pledge of up to about Ksh266 billion by 2030, it will support manufacturing, green energy, and digital innovation, with the Nairobi Railway City as a flagship project.
In his X post on June 30, 2025, Mudavadi highlighted the session’s success.
“We held a productive planning session in London with my Cabinet colleagues and senior government officials to prepare for H.E. President visit,” he wrote. “The Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership will drive economic growth, create meaningful employment, and advance our shared commitment to climate and public safety.”
The discussions included Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (National Treasury), Davis Chirchir (Transport and Roads), Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, and MPs from the Defence & Foreign Affairs and Transport Committees.
The partnership builds on past UK-Kenya collaborations, such as the Ksh602 billion green investment package from COP27 in 2022, supporting Kenya’s clean energy and net-zero goals.

It aims to double bilateral trade by 2030, enhance digital skills, and address security challenges like terrorism and cyber threats. Ruto’s visit includes a stop in Seville, Spain, for a global financing conference, followed by a keynote at the Africa Debate by Invest Africa in London to promote Kenya’s economic agenda.
Mudavadi stressed the partnership’s transformative impact.
“This agreement will position Kenya as a hub for investment and innovation,” he said, noting the Nairobi Railway City’s role in modernising Nairobi’s urban landscape.
Ruto is expected to engage UK top officials after winding up his visit in Spain, where he attended the Fourth Financing for Development (FfD4) Summit in Seville.
Speaking during the session, Ruto called for a complete overhaul of the global debt system as he urged world leaders to treat public debt as a tool for development rather than a burden on third-world countries.
