When famous Kenyan couples part ways, the drama often takes centre stage, from emotional joint statements to public disputes over parenting or personal leaks.

Initially, these breakups begin with solemn promises of privacy and mutual respect. However, as bittersweet apologies give way to scolding social media posts, what starts quietly often spirals into full-blown public feuds.

These highly personal moments morph into collective experiences that resonate far beyond the individuals involved.

Here, we take a look at some of the most explosive splits in recent memory, showing how relationships can go from sweet to turbulent when they play out in public.

On June 19, 2025, Kenyan comedian and influencer David Oyando, widely known as Mulamwah, and his ex-lover, Ruth Njoki Karegi, alias Ruth K, were embroiled in an online spat.

The feud, which saw the pair trading claims ranging from manipulation and disrespect both during and after their breakup, escalated rapidly on social media.

The altercations were triggered by Ruth’s claims that she has been enduring disrespect from the comedian after their bitter separation.

“Sometimes silence is taken for granted. It’s been barely three months since the breakup, and I’ve faced disrespect in ways you wouldn’t even imagine in public and worse in private,” she lamented.

In his defence, Mulamwah blamed Ruth for their breakup, stating that her friends influenced her decision to end things.

“It was a nice ride, young lady. Don’t cry wolf. You broke your own home with your two hands. I warned you of the so-called friends; now see… You never listened; you kept following their advice until they helped you move out of home to Ruaka because of their jealousy of your home, family, and achievements,” he stated.

  • Daddie Marto and Koku Lwanga

For the better part of June 16, 2025, netizens witnessed drama between actor and media personality Martin Githinji, popularly known as Daddy Marto, and his estranged wife, digital content creator Koku Lwanga, after she announced the end of their marriage.

In her announcement, Koku accused Marto of infidelity, abandonment, and abuse, claims which he refuted.

“You literally can build with a man, dedicate all, give all and in a blink, you will be reduced to nothing in his eyes. You become as fickle as a paper in the wind. You become a burden; you become something he loathes and wishes away. You become disposable. Oh, life, how cruel can you get?” Koku announced.

“I do not condone violence of any kind, physical, emotional, or psychological. I also unequivocally reject being the subject of false and harmful accusations,” Marto denied Koku’s claims.

In February 2024, Trevor made a surprising revelation about his once picture-perfect relationship with Eve Mungai, revealing it had ended a year prior.

In an unexpected twist aired on the revamped ‘Kenya Online Media’ YouTube channel (formerly the Mungai Eve Show), Trevor, channelled through his reporter Captain Nyota, spilt the beans.

“No! Her services are no longer needed in the following platforms: YouTube – 754K subscribers, Insta Fame – 104K subscribers, and Facebook – 874K followers,” he said in a Q&A session on his Insta stories.

After their breakup, the former lovebirds had a back-and-forth online altercation for some time.

Mulamwah and his baby mama, Carol Muthoni, widely known as Sonnie, publicly announced their breakup in December 2021, a few months after their daughter was born.

However, the comedian revealed he broke up with Sonnie when she was just three months pregnant, but chose to wait until the birth of their child to make the breakup public.

After the public announcement, netizens witnessed an online spat between the two former lovers after they became embroiled in child support drama for some time.

In October 2023, Mulamwah claimed Sonnie had blocked him from supporting his daughter while responding to a fan who was curious about his involvement in his child’s life.

“Do you support your child, Keila?” a fan asked, to which he responded, saying, “I try to support, but it’s hard. Unatuma pesa zinarevasiwa, ata birthday nimetuma gift ikarudisha so inakua tricky sana. Sijui shida wapi jameni.”

Vera Sidika and Brown Mauzo’s breakup became a staged battle of emotional healing, social media control, and public posture. As they navigate life apart, their story highlights the charged intersection of personal pain and digital life.

After finalising their divorce, the reality TV star threw a lavish divorce party on June 8, 2024, to end her relationship with Brown Mauzo nine months prior, after nearly three years of marriage.

In a video, Vera wore a vibrant feathered carnival outfit paired with a sheer black bodysuit and a pink set. She expressed her newfound freedom in the caption, stating, “Ready for my divorce party!!! I feel free like a bird.”

On the other hand, Mauzo shared a cryptic message on social media.

“Can we fall in love again? Clean up the mess we made; we restart everything and forget about the past,” Mauzo wrote.

Apart from the divorce party and cryptic message, the two were also engaged in a bitter online spat after Mauzo revealed their son’s face without Vera’s approval.

  • Frankie Just Gym It and Maureen Waititu

On October 20, 2020, Frankie accused Maureen of denying him access to his children while celebrating their son’s birthday.

“Since I have no access to you, I’ll pass these words on and hope they find you. Be true to yourself always. Live your own dreams. Don’t take life so seriously. And, last but certainly not least, know that I love you and will always be there for you, he wrote on his Instagram account.

“No matter what, I’ve got your back. You are my son and always will be. Happy birthday, Lexi.”

However, Maureen denied all the accusations levelled against her.

“Since the 10th of August, the father of my kids refused to support our kids; he threw us out of the home we were living in even after trying to get him to sit down with my lawyer to come up with a structure to raise our kids and now he has put a narrative about me denying him access to our kids on our son’s birthday post, which he knows is untrue. We moved out; he’s never bothered to find out where we live, and now he’s playing the victim,” Maureen stated.
