Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has called for the impeachment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over his shoot-to-kill order for police station invaders.

Speaking to the press on Monday, June 30, 2025, Wamuchomba, while criticising Murkomen’s order, challenged MPs who had joined the broad-based government to prove they were serious and part of the right administration by impeaching him.

She argued that he could not be trusted with the lives of Kenyans if he was directing police to use lethal force and demanded, in effect, to know what kind of minister Murkomen was if he gave such an instruction.

Hii ni serikali aina gani? Infact, ukiona hao MPs wote wenye walijoin broad-based government, waambie kama wako serious na wanajua wako in the right government, they should impeach Murkomen. Murkomen should be impeached; he cannot be trusted with the people’s lives if he is going to tell police to shoot to kill. What kind of minister are you?” Wamuchomba said.

The vocal lawmaker further said that they could not allow anyone to be that careless. She emphasised that the CS cannot instruct police that anyone who approaches a station should be shot, calling that deeply concerning.

“We cannot allow anybody to be as careless as that. Nimeona leo anastruggle struggle ati ohh sikusema hiii because anajua alimess. You cannot tell policemen that anybody approaches a police station; in fact, that is very worrying,” she added.

“We are not going to allow Murkomen to go that route.”

Murkomen’s order

Wamuchomba’s call for Murkomen’s impeachment comes days after the CS ordered the police to shoot invaders.

Speaking when he toured some of the police stations to assess the aftermath of the Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Gen Z memorial protests, Murkomen told the locals that he had ordered the police officers to shoot anyone who would invade a police station with ill intentions.

Ile shida inafanya saa zingine polisi wapige wakora risasi ni kwa sababu wanashikwa, wanaenda alafu wanarudi kuchekelea polisi wakisema sasa tulifika wapi, hakuna kwenye tulienda. Na tumeambia polisi, mtu yeyote ambaye atakaribia police station, piga yeye risasi,” Murkomen said.

Loosely translated as: “The problem that sometimes makes the police shoot criminals is that they get arrested, are released, then come back to mock the police, asking, ‘So, where did you take us? Nowhere.’ And we’ve told the police, —Anyone who comes near a police station, shoot them.”

According to Murkomen, the goons targeted armouries and police uniforms at various police stations in the country.
