Kenyan media personality and public figure Maureen Waititu has now come out to endorse former Chief Justice David Maraga for president in 2027.
While speaking on a popular podcast on June 30, 2025, Maureen stated that she supports Maraga and hopes he takes the step to run for the presidency.
According to Maureen, the time has come for a fresh crop of leaders – leaders who will not loot from Kenyans or engage in chaos and hooliganism as witnessed in the past.
She believes Kenya needs a new kind of leadership, and although Maraga may not be as popular as other political figures, he represents the real change the country needs.
“By the way, let me say this, and I can be quoted: I am supporting Maraga and hope he runs with it. Inasmuch as Kenyans, we are used to chaos, goons and hooligans, what if we try someone who is new for a change? Apart from the popularity, let’s be honest with ourselves; it is not going to be any better,” she said.
She went on to say that Kenya is currently going through hard times, with many unsettling things happening and hope among citizens fading fast.
She pointed out that even once-respected leaders such as Mutahi Ngunyi and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, now that they are in government, have shifted and are saying things that are hard to believe.

Maureen added that she personally does not know where Maraga comes from, but his work and track record speak for themselves.
His role in the judiciary and his consistent fight for justice, she said, are visible and admirable.
“We don’t know where Maraga comes from, but we have seen his work. His work speaks for itself,” she added.
Role of celebrities in next polls
On the issue of influencers and public figures endorsing political leaders, she encouraged them to do so but to support what is right.
She said that if influencers and artists had been vocal from the start, calling out wrongs and standing for truth, the situation in the country would not have escalated the way it has.
She condemned the actions of some artists and public figures who are being lured with money and gifts to support the wrong cause, adding that they must take a firm stand for what they believe in and advocate for better leadership without being swayed.
“The saddest part is how they are lured, and they have a meeting, and they are given a little money, and they come speaking another language, whatever you stand for with both feet and toes.” She concluded.
