Award-winning media personality Lynn Ngugi has questioned Kenya’s collective memory and political accountability, asking whether leaders who remained silent during deadly state crackdowns can now be trusted as saviours.
In a post on X on Monday, June 30, 2025, Lynn, who has consistently used her platform to amplify social justice issues, delivered a sharp commentary online, warning Kenyans against embracing figures with questionable pasts as messianic solutions to the nation’s leadership crisis.
Her statement, which has since sparked widespread reactions across platforms, called for deeper reflection amid shifting political sympathies and calls for leadership realignment.
“Time for a reality check…Can the man who stood by as a nation bled suddenly become its saviour? And how long do we allow those who gave shoot-to-kill orders to remain in power without consequence?” Lynn posed in her post, clearly referencing recent efforts to sanitise the reputations of individuals who held high office during some of Kenya’s darkest protest periods.

Without naming names, her statement made direct reference to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has recently been portrayed by some as a potential ally of the Gen Z protest movement.
Her remarks also cast a shadow on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, whose silence during police brutality has not gone unnoticed by the public.
Lynn said that if the country is now looking to figures like Gachagua as a beacon of political hope while individuals like Murkomen continue to hold influential positions, then perhaps the nation’s deepest crisis is not leadership itself, but collective amnesia.
“If Gachagua is the hope, and Murkomen still holds office, then maybe the real problem is not just the politicians. It is our memory. Share your thoughts 🙌🏽,” she wrote, in what many have described as one of the most piercing critiques of Kenya’s ongoing political realignment.

Missing influencer
Lynn’s remarks came just moments after she responded to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ statement claiming they were unaware of the whereabouts of X influencer Ndiangui Kinyagia, dismissing it as deeply unsatisfactory.
Lynn said the DCI should not be issuing hollow statements but instead take swift and visible action to locate him, given the growing concern Kenyans have raised over his unexplained disappearance.
“Then find him!!! Do your damn job,” Lynne reacted to the story from the DCI.
