Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has called on Kenyans to respect President William Ruto, describing him as both a legally elected and God-appointed leader.
Speaking in Kisumu East Constituency on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Wandayi emphasised that Kenyans should move away from what he termed divisive and abusive political rhetoric, arguing that they have been overtaken by time.
“Politics of division, politics of tribalism, politics of shareholding, politics of insults – these are politics that have been overtaken by time, and those who spread them will be left alone as Kenya moves forward,” Wandayi stated.
Drawing from Christian teachings, the Energy CS reminded the gathering that leaders are appointed by God, calling on Kenyans to respect the head of state.
“Leaders are chosen by God and President Ruto is in office legally. As Christians, let us respect him and give him time to govern,” he stated.
Message to opposition
Wandayi, who served as the Minority Leader in the National Assembly before his appointment to Cabinet, underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and constitutional order, urging political players to wait for the next general election if they wish to challenge Ruto’s leadership.
“When the election period comes, everyone will have their chance. But as I see it, these people will be defeated early in the morning,” he chided.

Wandayi further warned political naysayers against any threats directed at the Head of State, insisting that no one could intimidate a sitting president, especially one with the backing of the people and divine authority.
“Let nobody threaten you. Nobody can threaten a sitting president who has God’s backing and the people behind him. Stay firm and govern. We will handle the rest of the issues for you,” he said.
Wandayi, who described himself as a government implementer rather than a politician, assured that he is focused on helping Ruto deliver on his mandate.
“I am not a politician these days. I am just a government implementer who is helping the honourable President to implement his agenda,” he declared.
