In a sweeping operation targeting persons connected to the Wednesday, June 25, 2025, protests, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and various police stations across Nairobi have arrested multiple individuals and recovered stolen property, including firearms and police uniforms.
DCI on Sunday, June 29, 2025, said that uniforms and properties were looted during the unrest.
In Mbeere South and at Kiritiri Police Station, DCI officers apprehended two persons of interest, Francisca Mwingi and Linda Karimi. Authorities recovered a white water tank encased in metal, reported to have been looted from Kiritiri Market amid the chaos.
Meanwhile, a synchronised operation in the Kikuyu and Dagoretti areas yielded a high-profile arrest. Detectives intercepted and detained occupants of a Nissan matatu (registration KAW 702K), which is believed to have been used to transport rioters from Gachui-Mutuini to Dagoretti Centre.
“The persons of interest are accused of stealing firearms, police uniforms, assaulting officers, and torching a police post,” read the statement.
DCI said four individuals—Sammy Ndungu Kariuki (alias “Ndoji”), Lawrence Kariuki Ndungu, Ali Shama Tabet (aka “Alibaba”), and Simon Njoroge Hiuhu—were arrested in connection with the Dagoretti incident.

“Kariuki was identified on CCTV footage carrying a stolen police firearm, while the group was found in possession of looted goods from various shops,” DCI said.
In Naivasha Sub-County’s Maai Mahiu area, seven more people were apprehended: Raphael Njagi, Kelvin Kahuha, David Kinyanjui, Susan Njeri Karanja, Grace Mugure, Johanna Gichigo, and Joseph Nganga Njambi.
“Investigators recovered items stolen from the Transit Hotel, including two curtains, three pillows with cases, a curtain rod, and two large sufurias,” DCI said.
“All twenty arrested persons of interest are currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. They face charges ranging from theft and malicious property damage to arson and possession of stolen firearms and police uniforms.”
DCI officials say investigations are ongoing, with additional arrests anticipated.
“The rigour of this operation reflects our commitment to restoring peace and order. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring all perpetrators to justice and recover stolen property,” the statement stated.
Meanwhile, security agencies have urged the public to support the ongoing investigations by reporting information related to the unrest.
As the investigation unfolds, DCI has urged the members of the public to maintain strict adherence to due process and ensure that all persons of interest are arrested to be interrogated by the sleuths.
