Baringo County Woman Representative Jematiah Sergon has decried the hate for leaders in the country, observing that the trend should stop.
In a statement on Sunday, June 29, 2025, the vocal leader indicated that social media was awash with hateful messages about leaders, and she urged Kenyans to stop.
“The trend of hating leaders must stop! It’s unbelievable that when you scroll on this app, all you see is hate and anger toward leaders. Fellow Kenyans, this is NOT the direction we should go as a country,” Jematiah noted.
Protest against bad governance
The remarks come just days after thousands of youths poured into the streets to protest against police brutality that led to the death of at least 60 people in 2024 during the Finance Bill demonstrations.
During the June 25, 2025, protests, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR reported that 19 people had been killed during the demos that rocked several parts of the country.

In their report on June 27, 2025, KNCHR also documented 15 enforced disappearances, raising serious concerns about accountability.
KNCHR equally documented that 531 people were injured during the protest, with at least 179 others arrested and several others sexually assaulted.
In the aftermath of the demos, several shops and properties were vandalised and looted, a matter that has generated heated political bickering in the country.
Vandalism and looting
Also, a police station was stormed and torched. The Deputy County Commissioner’s office was equally raided, property vandalised, and offices set on fire.
Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, however, said that the attacks were staged to profile a certain community.

Speaking on Sunday, June 29, 2025, during a church service in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, Gachagua dismissed official reports about the incident, which stated that rioters stormed and torched the police post before escaping with five guns, including two AK-47 rifles.
Hiyo unaskia polisi ilichomwa, Kikuyu, ni uwongo. Who can attack a police station? You have nothing, you have no gun, polisi wako pale wako na bunduki,” he said.
Translation: What you’re hearing about a police station being burnt in Kikuyu is a lie. Who can attack a police station? You don’t have anything, you don’t have a gun, and the police there are armed.
Gachagua continued to question the credibility of the reports.
“Ati inawezekana ati watu wameingia polisi, ati wamechoma police station, wameenda, how?”
Translation: You mean it is possible people entered a police station, burnt it down, and left? How?
