When he came before Judge Eric Ogola, an elderly man who identified himself as Jacob Michuki Mokaya told the court that the woman who claimed to be Nyachae’s widow, Margaret Chweya, was actually his wife and even had a baby together.
Michuki claimed that he was notified of the case and people who told him things had been heavy.
“At the moment I’m home, I’m farming. I’m a regular farmer at Kisii home. Mokaya told the court.
Has Mokaya married Margaret Chweya?
According to Mokaya, he married Margaret in 1973 in accordance with the traditions of the Kisii while working at the Prison Training College.
He claimed that the marriage was arranged through his brother Margaret, and they lived together until 1978 when they were separated.
Mokaya told the court that at the time they had a son, who called Samuel Onyancha, also known as Rowney.
“That is the claim he makes that he was Nyachae’s wife. He said.
He explained that after the separation, he had nothing to do with their child’s life, insisting that they had no communication.
“I was taking care of Margaret and our baby. But after the separation, we had no contact. If I meet my baby today, I can’t recognize her. I don’t even know if she is still alive. Mokaya said.
Did Mokaya pay Margaret Chweya’s dowry?
This evidence has exacerbated the confusion in the inheritance crisis, since initially another man appeared in the same court claiming that he, not Nyachae, was Margaret’s legitimate husband.
These events in court have now raised the main question: Who is exactly Margaret Chweya’s legitimate husband?
During the cross interview, Mokaya admitted that although their marriage followed Kisii customs, he had never paid a dowry, including cows – an important cultural need to prove marriage.
When he was further motivated to comment, he confirmed that their child had been enrolled in school in 1978 but could not present any evidence to finance or participate in his upbringing since then.
The court presented a report on the outcome of the school named David Chweya, but Mokaya could not explain the difference between the name and the one he gave – Samuel Onyancha.
Who are the well -known wives of Nyachae?
As previously reported, the prominent politician was born in 1932 by colonial chief Moses Nyandusi.
Under the pressure of his father, Nyachae entered the marriage of many wives as a teenager.
She married a 16 -year -old while still studying, dropped out of school shortly afterwards, and within three years she had married three consecutive wives.
Finally, he married five wives, two of whom have already died, and he had more than 20 children.
As a fierce family leader, he described the funeral in 2016 how his wives respected him: when he got home, they would quietly brought food without saying a word.
His wives were: Esther Nyaboke and Druscilla Kerubo (all late), including Martha Mwango, Sylvia Nyachae, and Grace Wamuyu.
