Kangundo MP Fabian Muli has lauded the residents of Kitui County for upholding peace during the anniversary of the June 25 protests that rocked the county on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Speaking in Kitui West constituency on June 28, 2025, during a visit by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to the region, the MP hailed the residents for staying awy from the nationwide protests that resulted in massive loss of property and lives.
Wednesday demos
“Watu wa Kitui nawashukuru sana, vile kumekuwa na demonstations sijaona nyinyi mkiemda kwa barabara. Iyo ni mzuri sana, msikubali kuambiwa na mtu mvunje duka au mhariibu mali au kuchapa jirani yako,” he stated.
“Nchi yetu ya Kenya ni yetu sisi sote, kama kuna shida tatanatua wote kwa amani,” he said.
Translating to: The People of Kitui, I want to thank you very much. When there were demonstrations on Wednesday, I did not see you taking to the streets for the demos. This is very commendable. Never accept being used to loot shops, or destroy properties, or beat up your neighbour,” he stated.
“This county is ours, and if there are challenges, we will solve them together in peace.”

The MP’s remarks were mirrored by Kindiki, who decried the hijacking of the youth protest and agenda by a section of people who turned the protest to violence and destruction of people’s properties and livelihoods.
“Nawapongeza sana watu wa Kitui wakati tulikuwa na matatizo ya usalama siku ya jumatano, huku kulikuwa na utulivu county nzima. Tulipata matatizo kwa sababu watu walitumia maneno ya vijana wakaipindua na kuleta maafa na kutesa wananchi,”
“I sincerely thank the people of Kitui. When we had the challenges of security on Wednesday, you maintained peace across the county. We had problems as people hijacked the agitations of our youths and turned the demonstration into violent scenes, resulting in death and torture of our citizens,” he stated.
The remarks also follow after the DP revealed the government’s intention of pursuing the perpetrators of the violent scenes that marred the demonstrations. Kindiki said such an act of lawlessness had no place in a democratic society.
“On the happening of Wednesday, we will do everything within our means to make sure that such acts of violence and looting will never be repeated on Kenyan soil,” he told the gathering on Friday, June 27, 2025, in the same county.
“We will make a lesson of accountability on what happened in Kenya. If there are cases of police who engaged in excesses, they will be dealt with, but we saw police being attacked and stations being burned down. We will also protect those officers against attacks. I want to assure you that yesterday was a low moment for our country. We will make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he added.
