The Senate has announced a special sitting set for Monday, June 30, 2025, to deliberate on the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo.
The move follows a formal notification from the Isiolo County Assembly indicating that an impeachment resolution had been passed and submitted to the Upper House.
In a statement shared on Saturday, June 28,2025 via its official X account, the Senate said the sitting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate Chamber, Parliament Buildings.
“The Senate will hold a special sitting on Monday, June 30, 2025, to deliberate the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan,” the post read.
The impeachment motion, tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, was passed on Thursday, June 26, with 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voting in favour. Two MCAs were absent, and none opposed the motion.
The County Assembly noted that Governor Guyo had been formally invited to appear before the House but failed to do so. His absence was recorded, and the session proceeded in line with Assembly Standing Orders.
The Senate confirmed receipt of the notification from Isiolo County Assembly Speaker on June 27.
“This follows a formal notification from the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, received on June 27, outlining their resolution for impeachment,” the Senate stated.

The High Court in Meru has since added a legal layer to the unfolding political drama. On Friday, June 27, Justice Heston Nyaga upheld a conservatory order barring the County Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment.
The ruling came just one day after the motion was passed, raising questions about its enforceability.
Despite the legal uncertainty, the Senate plans to proceed with its scheduled agenda.
“Senate Speaker @HonAmasonKingi has issued a Gazette Notice convening senators to meet at 10:00 a.m. in the Senate Chamber,” the Senate noted in the post.
Alongside the impeachment matter, senators will also consider another key item: the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025.
“In addition to the impeachment charges against Governor Abdi, lawmakers will also deliberate on the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025… alongside the agreed version of the same Bill,” the Senate added.
As Monday’s sitting approaches, the Senate now stands at the center of a high-stakes constitutional and political test, weighing legislative process against judicial intervention.
