A woman identified in court papers as F.M. has sued a sitting Cabinet Secretary (CS) for child support, seeking more than Ksh 6 million in refunds for expenses she says she has footed alone since their son was born in August 2023.
Filed at Milimani Magistrate’s Court, the suit paints a picture of a whirlwind relationship that fizzled out long before the DNA test in December 2024 confirmed the CS is the child’s father. F.M. says she even paid the Ksh 30,920 lab fee and now wants that money back.
Her itemised claim totals Ksh 6,066,680, covering rent, food, medical care, clothing, transport, and other costs split between Kenya and Dubai, where she briefly lived while pregnant. She also wants sole custody and the legal green light to change the boy’s name.
The CS doesn’t deny paternity. In talks supervised by the court, he offered to cover all medical insurance and half of the child’s school fees up to Standard Eight, after which he insists the boy should attend a public secondary school because of “free government education.”
On housing, he’s willing to pay one-third – but only, he says, “at Kenyan rates.”
He flatly rejects any role in private or international school fees and argues the youngster should decide on a name change once he’s an adult. His lawyers have also warned F.M. to stop contacting him directly and stick to formal channels while the case is active.
| Key Issue | F.M.’s Position | CS’s Counter-Offer |
|---|---|---|
| Past expenses | Refund of Ksh 6,066,680 | No explicit refund |
| DNA test fee | Refund of Ksh 30,920 | Silent on refund |
| Future medical cover | Wants full support | Agrees to pay 100% |
| School fees | Wants full support, any school | Will pay 50% up to Std 8, public school after |
| Housing contribution | Seeks majority share | Offers one-third “at Kenyan rates” |
| Child’s name | Seeks immediate change | Opposes, says wait until adulthood |
| Custody | Requests sole custody | Position not yet disclosed |
The court will now weigh whether the CS’s proposal meets the child’s best interests or if F.M.’s refund demand and custody push carry the day. For now, both sides are under orders to hash out finer details before the next hearing.
