Sudan has accused the Kenyan government of actively supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which it designates as a terrorist organisation.
This comes after the government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, on June 16, 2025, admitted that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been supporting the RSF militia in its campaign to seize Sudan’s natural resources and gain a strategic foothold on the Red Sea.
Mwaura noted that Egypt and Iran are seen to support the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), while the United Arab Emirates backs the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), mainly due to strategic interests in Nile water, farming, and access to the Red Sea.
In response, the Sudanese authorities called the admission “an acknowledgement of the obvious” but warned that a more alarming revelation is Kenya’s complicity in the crisis.
In a lengthy démarche by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Khartoum said the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) recently discovered caches of weapons and ammunition labelled with Kenyan markings inside RSF-controlled areas in Khartoum.

RSF
Furthermore, Sudan claims that this discovery provides material evidence that Kenya has been a conduit for Emirati arms transfers to the RSF.
“Instead of explaining this grave violation of international law and the principle of good neighbourhood by his government, the spokesperson sought to justify the UAE’s complicity in the RSF’s war of terror against the Sudanese people by alleging that certain countries are helping SAF. These allegations are unfounded,” read the statement in part.
Sudan emphasised that the RSF has devolved into a terrorist militia responsible for widespread atrocities.
Further, the Sudanese government also criticised Mwaura’s remarks, which appeared to endorse the RSF’s announcement of a so-called “Government of Peace”, a parallel government structure viewed by Khartoum as an attempt to partition the country.
Honour obligation
Further, the Sudanese government has highlighted that the African Union, the United Nations, and various regional organisations have condemned this move.
“AU Peace and Security Council demands all member states refrain from supporting any such attempt. Insisting on this dangerous and reckless position by the Kenyan government poses a serious threat to regional security and stability and to the territorial integrity and statehood of African countries,” read the statement.
Sudan called on Kenya to honour its commitments under international and regional agreements, including the UN Charter and the African Union’s Constitutive Act, and to immediately cease all support for the RSF.
By the time of this publication, Kenya had not responded to Sudan’s claims.
