The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has outlined a raft of acceptable and unacceptable conduct for protesters ahead of the Wednesday, June 24, 2025, protests.

In its statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Ministry of the Interior, which coordinates security matters in the country, indicated that protesters must express their views peacefully.

The Ministry equally indicated that in the course of their protest, the demonstrators will be required to stay within the designated zones of the protest; a rule which will be challenging to enforce depending on the spontaneity of the demos.

Move as a group

To mitigate the challenges that may arise from the above rule, the Ministry observed that all the protesters must move as a group.

They have also indicated that the protest must have clear timelines on when it starts and when it ends. While protests rarely go past nightfall, a section of social media influencers has advised those planning to demonstrate to pack essential items to last them at least three days.

In the ‘don’ts’, the Ministry of Interior has advised demonstrators against provoking the police officers sent to control the demonstrations.

Similarly, the Ministry has urged the protesters against interfering with the peace of those who may not be interested in the protest.

Damage to public property

Also, the demonstrators planning to picket on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, have been warned against damaging either private or public property within the zone of their protest.

Notably, the Ministry of Interior has advised those planning to protest against attempting to breach protected areas.

This comes after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that no protesters would be allowed near critical government installations as the courts, parliament and even the State House.

The Ministry of Interior has equally advised protesters against spreading propaganda and carrying any type of weapon during the planned demonstrations.

In a statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said that the police service would be accountable for their actions during the protest.

“Despite some unfortunate and isolated incidents, for which the Service regrets, our focus remains on being a professional, efficient, and responsive Police Service that delivers effective, people-centric, and accountable policing for a safe and prosperous society,” Kanja promised.
