Comedian Eric Omondi has clarified Kenyans’ concerns about the money raised for Albert Ojwang’s family, who died in detention hours after being arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on June 8, 2025.
Speaking at a local TV station on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Omondi stated that Kenyans have raised a lot of money for the family through the paybill number.
However, Eric Omondi did not immediately reveal how much had been raised for the family through the publicised paybills.
“We raised a lot of money. We still haven’t balanced the books with the family, but I can tell we raised a lot of money. Sometimes I call the bank and try to find out how much is there,” he stated.
Furthermore, he has clarified why there were two paybill numbers when he began the fundraising drive on June 11, 2025.
To clear the air, Eric Omondi informed Kenyans that the second paybill has three signatories, dismissing claims of misappropriating the money.
“The first paybill did not bear the names of the immediate family members. It is our principle at Sisi Kwa Sisi that the money contributed by Kenyans goes directly to the family,” Eric Omondi stated.
“When I was approached, I did due diligence for accountability; the second paybill has three signatories, which include Ojwang’s mother, wife, and uncle, because the father does not have a national identity card (ID),” he clarified.
Eric Omondi’s sentiments came after a section of Kenyans questioned how much was raised and whether the money had benefitted the family.

Kenyans united in grief and compassion, pouring out their support for Meshack Opiyo, Ojwang’s father, whose brutal death has stirred a nationwide outcry.
The fundraising
Opiyo, who had travelled from Homa Bay to Nairobi hoping to rescue his only child, was met with devastating news: his son was already dead.
His heartbreaking image, shared widely in the media, showed a man defeated and confused, grappling with the weight of a loss he could neither explain nor accept.
The public response was swift and overwhelming. Hundreds reached out, eager to help the grieving father with burial expenses and to show they stood with him in his pain.
It wasn’t until the comedian shared Meshack’s phone number on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, that the donations began flooding in.
“Hey guys, God bless you for the overwhelming support… The M-Pesa message is full. This is Albert Ojwang’s father’s other number, 0113664965 (Meshack Opiyo). Let’s keep sending. You can also send it to Pochi La Biashara on the other number, 0727927898 (Meshack Opiyo). God bless,” Omondi posted.
“Just within 11 minutes of me posting Meshack’s number, and it is full. We have managed to get another number, and it will also read Meshack. He has called me and told me that ‘Eric, please tell Kenyans thank you,’” he added.
