The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has raised the alarm over the mysterious disappearance of advocate Ndiangui Kinyagia, whose last known communication was with his mother on Saturday, July 21, 2025, around 1:00 pm.

In a statement released via LSK’s official X account on Monday, July 23, 2025, the society described the incident as deeply troubling and indicative of an enforced disappearance.

According to eyewitness accounts shared by LSK, Kinyagia’s home was raided in broad daylight by a group of six to ten men driving Subaru vehicles.

The intruders forcibly broke into the residence and seized several items, including laptops, passports, and other electronic devices. Since the incident, the advocate’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Possible Enforced Disappearance

The LSK, led by President Faith Odhiambo and the Public Interest Litigation Directorate, met with Kinyagia’s distraught family earlier in the day and confirmed that a report had been filed at Kinoo Police Station.

An inventory of the seized items was submitted to the authorities, but no further leads have been provided.

“This incident bears the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance and a possible unlawful arrest or detention,” LSK stated. “It is a grave violation of constitutional rights and a direct attack on the rule of law in Kenya.”

The society condemned the silence from state agencies, saying the government must act swiftly to protect advocates and uphold justice.

Call for urgent action

In its public appeal, the LSK demanded immediate and transparent investigations into Kinyagia’s disappearance. “We are demanding immediate and transparent action from the authorities.

We call on any individual with relevant information, no matter how small, to come forward,” the statement read.

The LSK vowed not to relent until Kinyagia is safely located and those responsible are brought to justice.

They further called on all Kenyans, civil society groups, and legal professionals to stand in solidarity with the Kinyagia family.

The hashtag campaign #WhereIsNdianguiKinyagia has since gained traction online, as Kenyans decry what appears to be a growing pattern of forced disappearances.

“The Law Society will not rest until Advocate Ndiangui Kinyagia is safely accounted for and those responsible are held to full account,” LSK affirmed.
