“Your presence was a gift. We will deeply miss you, Mama. Your grandchildren will miss the little walks around the shamba, milking the cows, your tales and the smiles you brought to their faces, your warmth, your hugs, your gentle spirit. Rest well, Mum. Victor Wanyama’s mother

Serah’s tribute comes days after Wanyama’s elder brother, the former Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga, announced the death of their mother on Saturday, June 14, 2025 via his official social media accounts.

In his message to his followers, Mariga said the family is currently making funeral arrangements and has promised to share more details with the public in due time.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully this morning. We are currently making arrangements and will share more details soon! Thank you,” Mariga wrote.

Mildred Wanyama gave Kenya some of its most celebrated athletes. She was married to former AFC Leopards player Noah Wanyama, and together they raised a household deeply rooted in sports.

Apart from Victor and Mariga, Mildred was also the mother of Thomas and Sylvester, who have both played professional football, and Mercy, a talented basketball player who has represented Kenya internationally.

She was often spotted cheering from the stands during matches and took an active role during Mariga’s political campaigns, offering unwavering support to her children in every chapter of their lives.
