Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has promised to prioritise dairy farmers’ concerns once elected as the Kenyan president in 2027.

In an ambitious presidential plan shared on the night of Saturday, June 21, 2025, via his official Instagram account, Salasya stated that after trying out dairy farming, he had noticed that the cost of animal feeds was high.

According to the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term lawmaker, it is expensive and hard for a dairy farmer in the western part of Kenya to have a breakthrough in the business unless they get animal feeds from Uganda.

Salasya says that if elected as president, he will lower the prices of animal feeds by ensuring that there is no taxation on the feeds.

Smart farming

According to him, the move will also encourage smart farming in Kenya since land is becoming scarce.

“I have noticed that as a dairy farmer, it’s expensive and hard to break even in the business unless you get animal feeds in Uganda. As I become president in 2027, I will lower prices of animal feeds by ensuring no taxation on animal feeds to ensure that as land diminishes, I encourage smart farming in Kenya,” Salasya stated.

Salasya went ahead to state how he will transform the country’s economy. He says he would unveil an initiative dubbed pesa mfukoni na salasya, a slogan he will use to ensure money reaches the people.

“Though the market for milk in western Kenya is a hot cake. I am going to transform this country in all sectors; pesa mfukoni na salasya will be my slogan. Money will be with people, wacheni ujinga wa sahizi where by 80pc of people in this current gvt ni watu wa uwanja,” he stated.

MP heckled

Salasya’s promise comes hours after nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni faced a hostile reception during the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day in Meru County after claiming that President William Ruto’s administration had successfully lowered the cost of animal feeds.

The event, which drew thousands of livestock farmers from around the region and high-profile leaders, including President Ruto, had been organised to showcase innovation in the dairy industry in the region.

The crowd, relatively calm and collected, was charged when the MP took to the stage and started praising President Ruto, showcasing some of the projects he had done.
