Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has urged President William Ruto to resign and hand over the presidency to young leaders.
In a statement on X, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Salasya stated that the Head of State lacks knowledge of ways to change Kenya.
“I want to tell Kenyans that Ruto doesn’t know anything that can change this country. Trust him at your peril. He is not as wise as he thinks he is. He now needs to go and retire from politics to leave young leader Peter Salasya as president to plan this country’s job creation for young people,” he said.
According to Salasya, Ruto’s political rise was heavily dependent on forming strategic alliances with Raila Odinga’s team to establish influence in the Rift Valley and later with Uhuru Kenyatta to secure the Deputy President position and win over Mt. Kenya voters.
“He needed the Pentagon of Raila to stamp authority in the Rift Valley as their kingpin; he went for Uhuru Kenyatta to get the position of deputy president and get into the hearts of Mt Kenya. It means he can’t achieve it on his own, as he thinks,” he stated.

Furthermore, Salasya has stated that after realising the weight of running the country was too much, President Ruto turned to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for political support to stabilise his leadership.
“After he realised that the nation was hard for him to lead, he went to seek the support of Raila Odinga, at least to have a sleep in the State House. He went alone in no campaigns; he lost it, he even lost in the management of this country; Hadi Akafuta (fired) almost all his cabinet,” he stated.
“William Ruto needs to know that he is not a genius in politics as he thinks, and he should be reminded that he went for Moi to get political mileage to win the Eldoret North MP to thrive from there,” he added.
President Ruto
His remarks come after President William Ruto fired at his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, brushing off any political threat from him, claiming he was not scared of him and his political rhetoric.
While labeling Gachagua a ‘noisemaker’ with no vision or agenda for Kenya, Ruto said he isn’t losing sleep over his ex-ally’s criticisms, but is instead focused on the nation’s development agenda.

Speaking during the 10th Annual Meeting of the Meru Central Cooperative Union in Meru County on Saturday, June 21, 2025, President Ruto launched a scathing attack on Gachagua, dismissing the former deputy’s continued government attacks as baseless and lacking developmental substance.
Furthermore, he has dismissed his opponents, stating that they cannot succeed in intimidating him because his duty is focused solely on service delivery, not empty rhetoric.
“I’ve been in politics for years. No one can scare me or intimidate me with noise. These people are just a team of noisemakers, always singing ‘Kasongo’, when they know they failed when they were in power, and they will continue to fail because they have nothing to offer,” Ruto said.
