President William Ruto has fired at his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, brushing off any political threat from him, claiming he was not scared of him and his political rhetoric.
While labelling Gachagua a ‘noisemaker’ with no vision or agenda for Kenya, Ruto said he isn’t losing sleep over his ex-ally’s criticisms but is only focused on the development agenda of the nation.
Speaking during the 10th Annual Meeting of the Meru Central Cooperative Union in Meru County on Saturday, June 21, 2025, President Ruto launched a scathing attack on Gachagua, dismissing the former deputy’s continued government attacks as baseless and lacking developmental substance.
Flanked by his current deputy, Kithure Kindiki, two Cabinet Secretaries, and several Members of Parliament from the region, the Head of State told off his opponents, saying they cannot succeed in intimidating him because his duty is only focused on service delivery and not empty rhetoric.
“I’ve been in politics for years. No one can scare me or intimidate me with noise. These people are just a team of noisemakers, always singing ‘Kasongo’, when they know they failed when they were in power, and they will continue to fail because they have nothing to offer,” Ruto said.
The President made the remarks while Gachagua is on his three-day tour of the region to woo locals against re-electing Ruto come 2027.
Ruto’s remarks are seen as a direct rebuttal to Gachagua’s mounting criticism and growing opposition within the Mount Kenya region, where Gachagua has been positioning himself as a political counterweight ahead of the next general elections.
As tensions between the two former allies continue to escalate, Ruto dismissed Gachagua’s ambitions, warning Kenyans not to be swayed by “empty propaganda.”
“I am ready to work with those who want to build this country with me. And for those who want to continue with endless politicking, I have no space for them because my focus is on development and delivering the promises I made to Kenyans,” said Ruto.
Ruto emphasised that the public should not be distracted by petty political drama, stressing that Kenyans want tangible progress, not political theatre.
Amid the political firestorm, Ruto also made major announcements aimed at transforming the dairy industry, particularly in Meru and the larger Mt. Kenya region.
Lauding Meru Dairy CEO Kenneth Gitonga for his transformative leadership, the President pledged direct support to local farmers, including the donation of 15 milk coolers to the cooperative to reduce spoilage.
In a move set to revolutionise dairy farming across the country, Ruto announced a massive reduction in the cost of sexed semen, bringing prices down from Ksh4,000 to just Ksh1,000 effective July 1. This, he said, will ensure better livestock breeds and improved milk production.
