Homa Bay Town constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has taken a swipe at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Nyanza Bishops for demanding the disbandment of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Taking to his official X account on the night of Friday, June 20, 2025, Kaluma argued that religious leaders should be seeking information on matters before they go public to address the media.
According to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker, talking with finality without necessary information diminishes the reverence Kenyans have for the clergy and should be avoided.
Kaluma on the constitution
Kaluma further claimed that it was wrong for the bishops to demand the disbandment of the DCI without amending the constitution.
“Kenya is a deeply religious society. Our religious leaders should seek information on matters before they go public to address the media. Talking with finality without necessary information diminishes the reverence Kenyans have for the clergy and should be avoided. How do our good bishops demand disbandment of @DCI_Kenya without amending the Constitution?” Kaluma posed.
“Our clergy do not know that the president is the commander-in-chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, not the police! They are not aware that the difference between the current and the past administrations is that there is more accountability today than before,” he added.

ACK Bishops on DCI
The Nyanza ACK Bishops on Friday, June 20, accused the DCI of being behind a spate of disappearances, harassment, and killings of Kenyans.
Maseno South Bishop Charles Onginjo called on President William Ruto to stand up and defend Kenyans.
“Acknowledging the fact that the president is the symbol of unity, we are disappointed that President William Ruto has virtually failed to stand with the ordinary Kenyans who are the target of police brutality,” he said.
According to Bishop Onginjo, the time has come for the DCI to be phased out for the good of Kenyans.
He said that President Ruto must use the powers given to him by Kenyans under the Constitution to bring sanity to the security forces.
The bishops also accused DCI of being a dreaded unit being used by those in power to harass and maim Kenyans.
“We cannot and will not keep quiet when a unit of the police paid for by taxpayers’ money becomes a terror gang licensed to kill,” he said.
Speaking during a press conference in Kisumu on Friday at the New Cathedral Church, bringing together bishops from the six counties in Nyanza, Bishop Onginjo also noted that at the moment, there is no difference between the DCI and the terror gangs harassing the people across the country.
