Boniface Kariuki: A vendor who has been shot in the head undergoing second surgery to save his life

The surgical procedure was essential to remove the shooting pieces that remained dangerous in his skull.

Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) sent him back to the venue on Thursday, June 19, after his condition worsened.

Kariuki is now in critical condition in the intensive care unit KNH (ICU), relying entirely on life support.

His family, depressed and anxious, said it remained in hope but also demanded accountability from the authorities.

“In the morning, he was doing well, but about 10 am, they saw his condition had started to worsen, so they decided to perform a second surgery. They said his condition was not very good. His condition was bad. Eunice Kiragu, a relative, said.

Surgeons spent four hours trying to release the remaining shooting pieces and when the surgery was over, Boniface was sent back to the ICU, where the machines are now keeping him alive.

Outside of the ward, his family remains in pain, facing trauma and the uncertainty of what will follow.
