The popular East African festival dubbed Blankets and Wine has cancelled its upcoming edition that was slated for Saturday, June 29, 2025, in solidarity with Kenyans.
In an official announcement dated Friday, June 20, 2025, the organisers attributed the cancellation to the ongoing unrest in the country and specifically the anticipated nationwide June 25 memorial demonstrations.
The organisers explained that the decision was made following extensive consultations with their security teams and partners, who had identified the situation as volatile and high risk, citing concerns over potential damage to property and physical harm to setup teams.
“In light of the ongoing unrest within our country and specifically the anticipated nationwide demonstrations on June 25th, we regret to inform you that we have made the difficult, yet necessary, decision to cancel the upcoming June edition of Blankets & Wine that is slated for June 29th, 2025,” Blankets and Wine’s organisers announced.

“This decision has been made after deep consultations with our security teams and partners who have flagged the situation as volatile and high risk with regards to potential damage to property and physical harm to setup teams.”
In addition, the organisers further said that their work was about creating and holding space for joy, and that although they had planned an exciting experience for June, they believed it was imperative to prioritise security for their community while also standing in solidarity with Kenyans.
“Our work is creating and holding space for joy, and while we had planned an exciting experience this June, given the size and scale of our production, we believe it is imperative to prioritise security for our community while also standing in solidarity with fellow Kenyans,” the organisers added.
