Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has spoken publicly for the first time about the pain of losing her son, Elvis Murakana, who died in a road crash in March 2025. In an emotional interview with local media station, Elachi revealed how the tragedy has shaped her faith, family, and political outlook.
“For me, first of all, it was a very sad thing,” she began, her voice steady but heavy. “Elvis was at home… it was now 9, 10:30. The same way any other young person would do, wake up and go help others. They have called you, and make sure you have dropped them, and its a span of two hours and you get into this mess.”
The accident occurred on Thika Road, and Elachi said the situation was more complex than it first appeared.
“At first, when they said he had an accident, I told myself we’d go to the hospital and find,” she said. “But I think many things happened there. He didn’t have visible injuries, only a fracture in the leg, something you couldn’t even see.”
“When you see the place, you realise he was moving down the road. I think when he braked, the car turned back. He hit a wall, and I believe that’s what tilted or twisted his brain.”
Faith, grief and unanswered questions
Elachi explained that doctors attempted to save him through brain surgery.
“Maybe if they didn’t open his skull, we could be talking of something else. But once they did, it became uncontrollable. They couldn’t return the skull, and the other organs slowly stopped responding.”
The MP says she has found some strength in faith, but the loss has left her with questions.
“There are two things I’ve told myself,” she reflected. “You should only question God. Why would it happen? Why now, at this time? I always pray for his soul, that God will grant him favour.”
Since Elvis’ death, Elachi has had to carry on as both a leader and a mother. But grief hasn’t been her only challenge. The MP has also faced growing criticism online, especially after expressing support for President William Ruto during a time of unrest.
