Mumias East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has urged President Ruto not to vie for the presidency in 2027.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Thursday, June 19, 2025, Salasya argued that exiting the 2027 presidential contest is the best option that Ruto has since the public has lost hope and trust in him.

According to Salasya, it is almost impossible to win the trust of Kenyans once it is gone. Salasya argued that Kenyans cannot be compared to Ugandans, who still love their president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, due to the journey he has taken them from the hands of dictator Idi Amin Dada.
“Once the trust is gone, it’s gone… You can’t compare Ugandan people to Kenyans. Ugandans still love Museveni, and they believe in history; Museveni has walked with them from the hands of Amin Dada, etc. …. In Kenya, people have lost hope and trust in the current president, and he has no option. The only option for him is not to vie in 2027 as a president,” Salasya stated.

Salasya’s presidential ambitions
Salasya, who is now presenting himself as the best option for Kenya, has vowed to revive the country’s economy if elected president in the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Salasya stated that his academic credentials set him apart from the other candidates, as he holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce (finance).
“Among all serious presidential aspirants for 2027, I am the only one with a solid academic background in economics and a bachelor’s degree in commerce (finance). The rest studied law or veterinary science, fields far removed from the real heartbeat of a struggling economy,” Salasya said.
Salasya also stated that the country needs leaders who understand how to stabilise inflation, grow industries, and manage public debt.
“Kenya needs a leader who understands how to manage public debt, grow industries, stabilise inflation, and create sustainable youth employment, not just speak English and quote the Constitution,” he said.
“Bank on me, the youth of Kenya. I’m not just your voice; I’m your economic future. In 2027, we take back our country and place it in the hands of an informed, strategic generation,” he added.
