Detectives in Nairobi have arrested two suspects in connection with the tragic death of police officer Winny Zippora Atoo, who allegedly died after undergoing an abortion at a clinic in Kawangware.
Atoo, an officer with the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Embakasi, was reportedly transferred from Kabiru Hospital to Eagle Hospital in the area. Her body was brought to the hospital around midday on Tuesday, according to a police report.
Responding to a distress call, officers from Muthangari Police Station, along with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and crime scene experts, launched immediate investigations.
Upon arrival, officers found Atoo’s lifeless body in a pool of blood inside a private vehicle bearing the registration number KCP 623Y.
Investigators believe she may have been induced into labor before being rushed to the hospital. Authorities suspect she died around 10:00 p.m., several hours before the transfer. She was reportedly on leave at the time of the incident.
Police have arrested one Bruce Matte, identified as a nurse from the facility where the procedure reportedly took place, along with Indombuhai Humphrey, the driver who transported her.
Atoo’s body was taken to City Mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death.
