Former Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has claimed that a section of political leaders who plotted her ouster are now seeking to enter into an alliance with her.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, June 19, 2025, evening, Mwangaza, who was removed from office by way of impeachment, said that the leaders whom she says have declared themselves as Meru representatives are the same people who planned, schemed, financed, and sponsored her removal from office.
According to her, it is hypocritical that the said leaders are planning to host the opposition leaders from across the country in Meru on Friday, June 20, 2025.
She further claimed that the leaders, who include a former governor and a former cabinet secretary, had united against a democratically elected governor and sought to overturn the people’s will by camping at the State House and lobbying for support to remove her from office.
“There is also the visit by opposition leaders from across the country, hosted by a faction of Meru elites. I understand that these leaders will be hosted by a faction of leaders from Meru County, notably a former governor(s) and a former cabinet secretary who have now self-styled themselves as “the representatives of the Meru community”.
“I note that these so-called Meru Representatives are the same people who planned, schemed, financed, and sponsored my removal from office. They went an extra mile to unite against a democratically elected governor and sought to overturn the people’s will by camping at the State House and lobbying for support to remove me from office,” Mwangaza stated.
Emissaries sent
She argues that the said leaders, whom she did not mention, now want her to join their political alliance despite ousting her.
According to the first Meru female governor, the said leaders have reached out to her, sent emissaries, and even made direct phone calls.
“I wish to confirm to the public that these individuals, who arranged the sabotage of a democratically elected governor, are now ironically seeking me to join their political alliance. They have reached out to me, sent emissaries, and even phone-called me. Before responding to their invitations, I demand they answer: Was it justice to overthrow the people’s will?” she said.
Mwangaza slams opposition
She also slammed the opposition leaders who will be hosted in Meru on Friday, June 20, questioning why they were silent when she was being ousted.
“To the opposition leaders joining them from other regions: Where was your voice when a woman leader, democratically elected, was vilified and ousted by the very people who you are now in alliance with? Finally, what is your agenda for Meru’s women and men, whose votes were disregarded?” she questioned.
