In an interview on Wednesday, June 19, on TV of NTVMaraga said his decision followed a deep reflection on what he mentioned as the country had entered into rebellion.

A retired CJ, highly respected for his judicial freedom and integrity, referred to the next election as a war for the nation’s soul.

He made it clear that the 2027 votes would be the choice between restoring the rule of law and allowing the country to deteriorate more in a state of apathy and corruption.

“This has come from what has happened in the country. Seeing our young people being dealt with how they were dealt with is a very worrying, very worrying. So, I mean, after discussions with friends and others and after a deep meditation, I thought this was, it’s time to think about the country’s leadership.

Referring to the recent wave of The procession Youth led by what he called the government’s violence response, Maraga said he consulted with many people and concluded that it was a strong and only regulatory leadership that could save the country from further damage.

“We cannot let some people take our country to dogs. We need to think that seriously, and it is due to that reflection, I have decided that I will run for the presidency of this country 2027,” he announced.

What will the Maraga presidency involve?

Maraga’s decision marks one of the unexpected changes in Kenya’s ongoing political ranks.

Maraga, known for his 2017 historic decision that overturned the election of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, sets himself as a moral candidate.

He has kept himself in a good position to swallow the Gen Z movement that has been loud on the streets and on the internet.

His sharp criticism was set to the rule of Rutowho criticized for treating the public and especially young people in contempt.

Maraga said the law has been a nuisance to those in power rather than a responsible system.

“It’s time to consider restoring our country to the constitutional compliance where everyone thinks about the law and complies with the constitution,” Maraga added.

Will Maraga join the opposition coalition?

Despite his roar entry, Maraga has not yet expressed a willingness to compare himself to other opposition giants.

His independent position distinguishes him from former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP’s Martha Karua, former interior minister Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa of Dap-K, who are looking for a joint ticket to Ruto 2027.
