Mumias East constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has offered to nominate former Chief Justice David Maraga as his Attorney General should he get elected as president in 2027.
Taking to his official X account on the night of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Salasya argued that Maraga demonstrated high moral character and compliance with ethical standards in his career.
“I will nominate @dkmaraga as my Attorney General. In his career, he demonstrated high moral character and compliance with ethical standards,” Salasya stated.
Salasya’s presidential bid
Over the past few months, Salasya has been traversing the country to popularise his presidential bid.
Early this week, he hinted at plans to recruit prayer warriors into his 2027 presidential campaign team.
Taking to his official Instagram account on the night of Monday, June 16, 2025, Salasya, who is seeking to unseat President William Ruto in 2027, stated that he would resume his presidential popularisation campaigns once the real killers of youthful teacher Albert Ojwang are revealed.
According to him, the matter should be concluded in a week so that he can resume his vote-hunting mission.
However, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term MP says he will need to recruit some prayer partners and intercessors into his team.
This, he says, is because a presidential bid is not easy, and it comes with a fair share of challenges.
“As we conclude the matter of Mr Albert this week by revealing all who orchestrated the death of a comrade, the fighter of this great country, I will resume my presidential popularisation bid of 2027. I will need some prayer partners and intercessors on my team because it’s not easy; it comes with a lot of challenges,” Salasya stated.
Maraga’s presidential bid
Salasya’s statement on nominating Maraga as his Attorney General comes moments after the former CJ announced his presidential bid.
Speaking on the night of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, during an interview with one of the local TV stations, Maraga said that he had made up his mind to run for the hotly contested presidency.
According to Maraga, the decision to run for the presidency came after discussions with friends and others, with him claiming that he made up his mind after serious reflection.
Maraga further says that the move came as a result of the events that have been happening in the country, including the way the young people have been handled during protests.
“This has come as a result of what has happened in the country. You are a parent, and many others are also parents; to see the young people being handled the way they have been handled is something that is extremely worrying. After discussions with friends and others, and after a serious reflection, I thought it was time that we think about the leadership of this country. We can’t let some people literally throw our country to the dogs. We need to think about that seriously, and it is as a result of that reflection that I have made up my mind that I will run in 2027 for the presidency of this country,” Maraga said.
