A terrible accident has cost the life of controversial preacher Gilbert Deya on the Kisumu-Bondo highway, leaving several others injured.
The accident happened on Monday afternoon in Kapiyo area in the county Kisumu.
Deya, who was traveling in Toyota Noah along with two women, one believed to be his wife, died after a trace hit their car.
The car was largely damaged by the collision. Deya’s longtime lawyer, John Swaka, confirmed the news of the accident in a statement to TUKO.co.ke.
He revealed that preliminary reports showed the publisher was rushed to hospital following the accident, but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful.
“Previously, the news that came is that it was an accident. What I know for sure is that he was involved in a road accident near Bondo. The trailer hit them in the afternoon. I have not been able to contact anyone of his family. I’ve been calling her. This news got me on the road, ” Swaka said.
Nyanza Regional Traffic Commander Peter Maina also confirmed the incident.
He said it was true that Deya was on Toyota Noah with two female passengers when the accident happened.
Several others, including university students, also suffered injuries in the crash.
