Deputy Inspector General Eliud Kipkoech Lagat of the Kenyan police service has found himself in the midst of controversy after being linked to the famous death of blogger Albert Ojwang.

His current problems follow an amazing journey through the national police service, where he held the top positions and took on important roles in bringing important reforms.

Eliud Lagat Education, Work Trip

The Lagat Police journey began in 1998 after completing training at the Kenyan Police College in Kiganjo.

Before joining the service, he worked as a Mekanika, with a first degree in automotive engineering technology from the University of East Africa, Baraton.

His professional achievements also include a Master’s degree in war and peaceful training from the University of Nairobi, which he received in 2010.

For many years, Lagat served in many specific roles. Between 2000 and 2001, he worked as an inspector under the bombing unit in the former Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is now the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

He also served as a trainer at CID training school and headquarters of DCI.

From 2001 to 2005, Lagat was a court detective at the DCI headquarters before planting and became deputy head of the criminal assistance unit.

He later took on the role of the bombing unit and dangerous equipment, where he specializes in investigations related to explosions and post -explosion analysis.

In 2020, his extensive knowledge of the investigative work promoted him to the deputy director of the DCI reform section.

By 2022, he was appointed Director of the Office of the Investigation, where he oversaw complex investigations and security operations until April 2023.

In the same year, Lagat was appointed as the Commander of the General Service Unit (GSU), a Kenyan police wing, and in 2024 he was appointed Deputy Inspector General, inheriting Douglas Kanja.

Throughout his playing life, Lagat has won many national awards, including Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), Head of State Companions (HSC), Silver Star (SS) of Kenya, and “NDC (K)” celebrity from the National College of Defense.

Why did Lagat resign for a while?

His mysterious journey is now covered by allegations of his involvement in the Ojwang massacre.

According to Kaja, Ojwang was arrested for a social network post criticized Lagat, after DIG filed a formal complaint.

The blogger was later transported from Homa Bay to Nairobi Police Station, where he later died in a controversial environment under police protection.

Since then Lagat has separated from his role to provide an opportunity for an independent investigation into the death of the blogger.
