TikToker Mama Jimmy has lifted the veil on her life abroad by revealing that she is currently running a sleek, self-managed farming venture in the United States, a move that has drawn backlash from netizens who claimed relocating overseas to till land is a sign of failure.

In a strong clapback on the night of Saturday, June 14, 2025, the mother of two scoffed at suggestions that moving abroad to venture into agribusiness symbolises a fall from grace or a lack of ambition.

Instead, she termed her decision to pursue farming in a foreign land as one of her proudest and most intentional life pivots.

While giving fans a brief tour of her vegetable garden, she proudly showcased a fresh bunch of amaranth, which she had just harvested.

She said the crop had flourished beautifully, adding that she was about to prepare it for her next meal.

“Farming here in the US is going very well,” she stated while panning the camera across her healthy crops. “Look at this amaranth I have just picked— I am about to prepare it.”

She further noted that those who desire such results must be willing to get their hands dirty and grow their own food.

According to her, anyone who admires such produce must take the bold step and till the land themselves, wherever they are.

“If you want to farm here, till your land and eat from it,” she advised.

“You know, some people say they could never leave Kenya to come and farm in the US. They say they would never leave just to dig and grow crops. But if you admire these vegetables, then go ahead and farm.”

Mama Jimmy also showcased other crops she had planted, including collard greens, cowpeas, and maize, describing the healthy growth as proof that with even minimal input, the results can be impressive.

“I have planted collard greens and applied just a bit of manure— wait until you see how lush they have grown. These are also cowpeas that I planted, and I have maize too. I am now just waiting for it to mature so that we can eat,” she added.

Netizens’ reactions

Mama Jimmy, who relocated to the United States alongside her missionary husband, Baba Jimmy, in June 2024, sparked a flurry of mixed reactions from netizens following her revelation about embracing farming abroad.

While a section of her supporters commended her for immersing herself in a meaningful, income-generating activity while in a foreign land, others appeared less impressed, suggesting that she could have simply remained in Kenya and pursued farming locally with the same energy she now invests abroad.

Here is a snapshot of how fans responded online:

@starlite said, “Mama, you did not travel there to slay— do what feels right for you, take care of your children, and safeguard your marriage; life is yours to live.”

@reenmo remarked, “You should have just stayed in Butere and farmed; the only difference was taking a flight.”

@cheermr added, “Keep farming, Mama Jimmy; plant sukuma, cowpeas, amaranth—why not? It is your life, your choices.”
