Lawyer Willis Otieno has called for the arrest and prosecution of the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, for the offence of lying under oath.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, June 15, 2025, a few minutes past midnight, Otieno argued that Amin had lied when he appeared before Parliament when he was being grilled on the death of Albert Ojwang.
The lawyer further claimed that Amin’s lies have since been demolished by timestamped CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, which shows Ojwang’s lifeless body being wheeled in by police officers at 01:35 am.
“DCI Mohamed Amin Lied Under Oath. He Must Be Prosecuted. When DCI Mohamed Amin appeared before Parliament and claimed that Albert Ojwang was found alive at 01:35 AM in Central Police Station cells, he did not make a mistake. He lied under oath. This lie has now been demolished by timestamped CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, which shows Albert’s lifeless body being wheeled in by police officers at that exact same time 01:35 AM,” Otieno stated.
“You cannot be dead in Mbagathi and alive in police custody at the same time. One version is a lie. The lie came from the very man meant to uphold the integrity of criminal investigations in Kenya. This is perjury, punishable under Kenyan law. It is obstruction of justice. It is an abuse of office. It is active participation in a cover-up of murder. Amin must be arrested, suspended from office, and prosecuted without delay. The law cannot be enforced by those who break it.”

Omtatah’s demands
Busia County Senator Okiyah Omtatah has also demanded the ouster of Amin for the same reasons.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at about midnight, Omtatah stated that Amin had lied under oath and that Ojwang was in a police cell at that exact time the CCTV captured his lifeless body at Mbagathi Hospital.
Amin’s remarks
Appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the DCI boss told the MPs that officers at Central Police Station had conducted a routine checkup in the cells, with an OB entry having been made at 01:35 am confirming the well-being of the inmates.

However, Amin, while reading out the said OB entry, stated that Ojwang was making a lot of noise in the cell where he was alone while kicking the cell walls.
“At 0135 hrs, the same PC, Mohamed Hillow Abdullahi, again made an entry in the occurrence book. What did he say? Now duty officer IP Nganga and the cell sentry PC Kimani have visited the cells and found most of them well, apart from the last cell, where he found a prisoner, namely Albert Omondi Ojwang, who was alone in the cell making a lot of noise while kicking the cell walls,” Amin told the MPs.
